Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) was founded by Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda in 1917. The mission of YSS is to make available to all the ancient scientific teachings, and meditation techniques of Kriya Yoga for achieving all-round success, well-being, and a direct personal experience of God. YSS has more than 200 centers across India to help all Truth-seekers to experience the power of group meditations and to share in spiritual fellowship. Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Kendra at Nagpur started its regular spiritual activities from around 1982.
History
YSS activities in Nagpur date back to 1969 when Hansa Swami Shyamanandaji and Brahmachari Karl visited Nagpur. Swami Shyamanandaji gave Hong-Sau Diksha at the house of Shri Gopikishan Taori, an advocate.
In 1977, a Dhyana Mandali started in Nagpur at the house of Sri Gupte at Mashruwala Marg (Now Cement Road), Shivaji Nagar. However, after the demise of Sri Gupte in the year 1981-82, the group meditations had to be shifted to a rented premise at the behest of Sri Sunderlal Mohta and Sri Balkrishnadas Mohta. Sri Sunderlal Mohtaji was the first to become YSS devotee in the area and take Kriya diksha from Sri Daya Mataji in 1968. The new meditation venue was located at Sarda Nivas at 129, Ramdaspeth, Nagpur.
After the visit of Swami Shantananda Giri in 1982, the venue for group meditations was finally shifted to the house of Sri K. D. Tule at 4, “Mandar”, Shraddhanand Peth. The spiritual activities at this location are continuing uninterrupted since then and at present the entire second floor of the house is dedicated to serve as Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Kendra - Nagpur. The premise contains a big meditation hall as well as a book room. Average attendance for the Sunday group meditations at the Kendra is around 70 to 80.
Activities
All the devotees are welcome to attend weekly group meditations conducted by the Kendra on Sundays. In addition, Kendra conducts spiritual programs on the occasions of Guru Purnima, Janmotsav (birthday of Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda), International Day of Yoga, and all other commemorative days every year. All YSS publications are available for sale at the Kendra which could be purchased after the group meditation sessions.
From 24th May 2015, the Kendra has starting organizing Children Satsangas on 1st Sunday of every month.
In addition to the main Kendra, Nagpur has three subcenters where group meditations are being held on different days of the week at the houses of individual devotees. For details about their meditation timings and contact details please click here.
